On Tuesday, I had to do camera tests for my wigs. I have about three or four wigs throughout the movie. We do not shoot the movie in order, so they have to make wigs to show how I looked before I got sick. My wigs are brown!!! It's really strange to see. But the director Mark reminded me that I am playing Ryan not Max and Ryan has brown hair. I went from class to the hair trailer to the set and repeated and repeated and repeated. One fun thing that happened is that I got to meet Alfred Molina who is in the movie but not in my scenes. Fred (as he likes to be called) plays Doc Ock in Spiderman in case you don't know him by his name. He is the nicest guy ever. And he's super funny. He spent a lot of time talking to me and giving me pretend advice about being in the film business. Basically he tried to make me into a monster by telling me I should yell at producers and demand nicer trailers. He also told me that if a director gives me a note I should say, 'DON'T YOU EVER TALK TO ME LIKE THAT AGAIN!" I would never do that! He was only joking.
On Wednesday, I went to a museum with Julia and our tutor. We went to the Royal Ontario Museum which was AMAZING!!! There were displays of real dinosaurs. Many more than the field museum has. And there was also an awesome display about Pompeii. We were there for 6 hours!!! I spent most of my time in the Paleontology section.
Thursday I shot two scenes. It took about 7 hours! I was on location shooting until very late!! They had to release me eventually because it's against the rules to work a kid past a certain hour. I had to leave after my close up but Gerry still had his close up to shoot. I felt bad not being there for his reaction, but I know he's a professional. It is an interesting that we were shooting scenes in a car and we were supposed to be looking at buildings in CHICAGO!!! When the film comes out it will be fun to know that we are actually looking at the BMO Harris bank of Montreal building and not the Wrigley Building like we say in the scene. I also got to shoot with my film mom. Her name is Gretchen Mol and she is so sweet. She brought me Maple sugar candy and maple sugar butter. She lives in New York and has two kids so she misses her family too.
Today will be another long day as I shoot more scenes with Gerry and I also go to school! It will be a long day but then I get to go home for Halloween!!!!
Hope you all are doing great! See you on Halloween!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Max, these are great posts. Thank you for all of the details! You should talk to your tutor and see if she'll count this blog as part of your classwork! Keep em coming.

Hi Max! Wow, what a week! It can't believe you spent so long shooting two scenes. It is amazing how movies are made. You would assume you would just shoot the scenes in order. I'm glad you got to go to the museum yesterday. Sounds like a great place! Have a great Halloween back in Chicago! Thanks for you posts. It is so fun to hear what you are up to each day!
ReplyDeleteI bet you had a lot of fun, I wish we could be there watching you, I wish we all got pink swivel chairs. :) I can't wait to she the movie, maybe we should get the whole class to see it together.
ReplyDeleteHey Max!!!! I really miss having you at school. P.S. We're using your desk as a binder holder. We thought you'd be ok with it. :) Good luck superstar.
ReplyDeleteWow, you are eating a lot of maple stuff! But it is on Canada's flag. It sounds really good. If you are pretending to be in Chicago why don't you film here? Is this movie from a while ago, like set in 19___? If not, why are you wearing suspenders? It was nice to hear from you!
ReplyDeleteI saw you on Halloween. Weren't you captain america? i cant wait until the movie comes out and I can watch it (or my parents). Is it going to be a kids movie or adults movie? The museum looks so cool to go to.
ReplyDeleteHi max! me and lily s. thought that you looked a little like senor woolly with your wig on. These are the videos we have been watching in Spanish class. Here's the link!!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34FxtEyRgIw
ReplyDeleteHi Max! It seems like you're having a lot of fun. How was Halloween? How much candy did you get? (Augusta and I thought you looked a little like Senor Wooly(Spanish videos) with your wig on.) Augusta posted the link of the video with the guy you look like. Have fun!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you are having a lot of fun Max! One scene takes takes four hours, and two scenes takes 7 hours. Why does it take that long? Is there a long plan for the scene before it is on camera? Is there a lot of retakes?
ReplyDeleteIt takes a long time because they set up many shots and angles of the same scene. Plus you have to do it a lot of different ways so that in editing, they have choices.
DeleteI'm excited to see your movie! See you in December.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lot of fun! Why do the scenes take about 4 hours to 7 hours?
ReplyDeletehi! thats really cool!
ReplyDeleteHow warm is it there? we had a warm streak the past few days, but now it is getting colder. It was 70 degrees on Thursday. Sofia won the geography bee for room 211! What do you do when you film scenes? Thanks for informing us!
